Kareena Kapoor Khan praises Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone and Vidya Balan for changing women’s roles and pay

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan acknowledged the significant contributions of leading female actors like Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone, and Vidya Balan in shaping women’s roles and pay equity in the Hindi film industry.

As per a report by PTI, speaking at the ABP Ideas of India Summit 3.0, Kareena highlighted how these actresses, alongside herself, “have always tried to stand for roles that have risen above just being there in the film.” This collective effort, she believes, has transformed the landscape, empowering actresses to demand better roles, fees, and positions.

The 43-year-old actress asserted, “So, whether it’s leading actresses like Kangana (Ranaut), Vidya (Balan), Deepika (Padukone) or myself, we’ve always tried to stand for roles that have risen above just being there in the film. So, all has changed a lot of dynamics on many levels, like demanding a certain role, a certain fee, or position.”

Bebo stressed the importance of moving beyond labelling films as “male-centric” or “female-centric,” citing her upcoming film Crew with Tabu and Kriti Sanon as an example. “It’s a film, not a label,” she emphasized, urging audiences to focus on the story and characters.

Addressing the stereotype surrounding actresses’ age, Kareena said, “Age is just a number. The audience has become accepting.” Expressing gratitude for audience support, she stated, “I’m happy in my 40s and wouldn’t want to be 21 again.” Concluding her point, Kareena said, “I’m passionate about being in front of the camera and playing different roles. I don’t know anything else and want to work forever.”

Speaking of the professional front, Kareena is currently awaiting the release of her next film, Crew. It also stars Kriti Sanon and Tabu along with Diljit Dosanjh. Meanwhile, comedian Kapil Sharma will also be seen in a cameo. The film, directed by Rajesh Krishnan, is slated to release on March 29.
