Yemen’s Houthis launch drone attack on Israel’s resort city Eilat: Israeli army

Jerusalem, Oct 6 (IANS) — Yemen’s Houthi forces launched a drone toward Israel’s Red Sea resort city of Eilat late Sunday, marking the second such attack within a day, the Israeli military said. The unmanned aerial vehicle was “likely intercepted” before reaching its target.

“Following the sirens that sounded regarding a hostile aircraft infiltration in the Eilat area, a UAV launched from Yemen was likely intercepted by the Israel Air Force (IAF),” the military said in a statement.

It added that warning sirens were activated due to the potential risk of falling shrapnel from the interception. Police later confirmed that officers were searching the area but reported no casualties or damage.

There has been no immediate response from Yemen’s Houthi group, according to Xinhua news agency.

Earlier in the day, Houthi forces had fired a missile toward central Israel before dawn, claiming it targeted “sensitive sites.” The Israeli military said that missile, too, was intercepted by its air defense systems.

This latest incident follows a similar escalation on September 26, 2025, when the Houthis announced they had launched a “hypersonic ballistic missile” toward Israel. In a televised statement broadcast by Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, military spokesman Yahya Sarea said the missile targeted a “sensitive location” in the Jaffa area of southern Tel Aviv.

Sarea claimed the attack temporarily halted air traffic at Ben Gurion Airport and forced thousands of residents to take shelter. He described the strike as retaliation for what the group called “Israeli aggression” in Gaza and for Israeli airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, earlier that day.
