Kabul, Aug 25 (IANS): Three people were killed and four others injured when a passenger vehicle overturned in northern Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province, provincial police said on Monday.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Pul-e-Shopay area of Kohistan district, after the vehicle veered off the road due to reckless driving, said police spokesman Ehsanullah Kamgar. Among the victims were a woman and a child who died on the spot. The injured were rushed to nearby health centres for treatment.
The incident follows a series of recent road tragedies across Afghanistan. Earlier on Sunday, two people were killed and 12 injured in separate accidents in Ghazni province — one in Ghazni city and another on the Ghazni–Kandahar highway in Ab Band district.
On Friday, 12 people, including three women and nine children, died when a tractor fell into a river in Helmand province’s Garmsir district. Four other children were injured in that crash. According to local officials, villagers in rural Afghanistan often use tractors and animals to transport people and farm produce, contributing to safety risks.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution to prevent further such incidents.
