Saree draping workshop marks International Women’s Day celebrations in Brisbane

International Women’s Day was celebrated with colour, culture and camaraderie at an event hosted by the Consulate General of India, Brisbane in collaboration with Councillor Penny Wolff of the Brisbane City Council.

The Saree Draping Workshop, held on March 11, brought together Brisbane City councillors, members of the diplomatic corps, and officials from government agencies including DFAT and Tourism and Events Queensland. 

The evening featured draping demonstrations, cultural dance moments, and a shared dinner, creating a lively atmosphere of connection and celebration.

The workshop was presented by Sharmeen Thomas, who guided participants through the art of saree draping. Attendees also tried Bollywood dance steps, adding an energetic and festive touch to the programme.

Guests were further introduced to India’s rich tea heritage through a curated tasting of Indian teas. The event was attended by several councillors and distinguished guests, reflecting strong cultural engagement and community participation in marking International Women’s Day.
