One killed after stabbing incident in Australia’s Sydney

Sydney, Aug 28 (IANS) – A 19-year-old man was killed and another hospitalised following a stabbing incident in western Sydney on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to a bus station in Mount Druitt, about 38 km west of central Sydney, shortly after 10:10 p.m. following reports of a welfare concern.

Responding officers found two 19-year-olds with stab wounds. One suffered injuries to his chest and, despite attempts by paramedics to revive him, was declared dead at the scene. The second sustained stab wounds to his arm and was taken to hospital in stable condition, Xinhua news agency reported.

A crime scene has been established, and homicide detectives are assisting local police in investigating the incident.

The stabbing comes just days after a separate incident in Brisbane’s northern suburbs on August 22, where two men were seriously injured, and a third man was arrested.

Queensland Police said emergency services were called to a property in Zillmere, where two men — one in his 20s and the other in his 30s — were found with serious stab wounds. Both were transported to hospital.

A 51-year-old man, known to the victims, was later arrested and treated under police guard for a finger laceration. Investigators confirmed there was no threat to public safety, and a crime scene was declared as inquiries continued.
