Khadi and craft heritage highlighted at Parliament House showcase

Threads of Unity presented a 15-minute cultural segment at a Commonwealth gathering at Parliament House, Brisbane for The Victoria League for Commonwealth Friendship, attended by approximately 400 invited guests from government, business, and community sectors.

The showcase explored the connection between artisan textiles, ethical trade, culture, and sustainability. It opened with a short parliamentary-style address co-presented by Demetra Allen, founder of Threads of Unity, and actor Sean Dennehy.

The segment also featured a video message from acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, who spoke about the importance of supporting Indian artisans and preserving traditional crafts that sustain livelihoods, dignity, and cultural heritage.

A curated fashion presentation followed, highlighting handloom traditions and artisanal craftsmanship. Designs by renowned Indian designer Nupur Kanoi, along with pieces from Threads of Unity, were showcased.
