Santiago, Oct 3 (IANS): Indian diplomatic missions across the globe marked the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, celebrating his enduring message of truth, non-violence, and peace. Gandhi Jayanti not only honours Gandhi’s lifelong commitment to social justice and ethical living but is also observed internationally as the UN’s International Day of Non-Violence.
In Chile, the Indian Embassy organised exhibitions on Ayurveda and Khadi products, highlighting India’s traditional medicine and promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to popularise Swadeshi products.
In Ghana, the Indian High Commission in Accra held commemorations at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in IT (GI-KACE), where High Commissioner Manish Gupta, along with Director General Collins Yeboah and other attendees, paid floral tributes and reflected on Gandhi’s ideals of peace, truth, and non-violence.
In Trinidad and Tobago, Indian High Commissioner Pradeep Rajpurohit and Prem Bhandari, Chairman of Jaipur Foot USA, honoured Gandhi at Kew Place in Port of Spain, remembering his unwavering commitment to truth and non-violence.
Similarly, in Colombia, Indian Ambassador Vanlalhuma, Embassy officials, and members of Utadeo University in Bogota paid tributes at Gandhi’s bust on campus, celebrating his principles of truth, non-violence, and compassion.
In Cyprus, the Indian High Commission partnered with Malounta Middle School in Nicosia and the Centre for Social Innovation to mark Gandhi’s 156th birth anniversary and the International Day of Non-Violence. Discussions focused on strengthening India-Cyprus educational and cultural cooperation, including student projects, sustainability initiatives, and cultural exchanges. The High Commission described the event as fostering friendship, collaboration, and shared values of service and welfare.
In the United States, Indian Consul General D.C. Manjunath in Houston joined the Board of the Eternal Gandhi Museum and the Indo-American community to pay tributes, with patriotic songs echoing Gandhi’s message of peace and non-violence.
In Canada, Acting Consul General Kapidhwaja Pratap Singh in Toronto honoured Gandhi, with the Consulate emphasizing the enduring relevance of his ideals in promoting global peace and harmony.
