Frankfurt, Oct 23 (IANS) — Liverpool ended a four-match losing streak across all competitions with a dominant 5-1 win over Frankfurt, while Chelsea thrashed ten-man Ajax 5-1 in another standout Champions League fixture. Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, were held to a goalless draw by Monaco.
At Deutsche Bank Park, Liverpool came from behind after Rasmus Kristensen put Frankfurt ahead in the 26th minute. Hugo Ekitike equalised on his return to the club he left in the summer, before Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate turned the game with first-half goals from corners. Second-half strikes from Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai completed a convincing victory, giving the Reds their second win in this season’s group stage.
Chelsea dominated Ajax at Stamford Bridge, taking control after Kenneth Taylor was sent off in the 18th minute. Marc Guiu scored immediately afterward, and Moises Caicedo added a deflected second. Although Wout Weghorst converted a penalty to pull one back for Ajax, two penalties from Enzo Fernandez and Estevao Willian had Chelsea 4-1 up at halftime. Substitute Tyrique George made it 5-1 early in the second half as the Blues maintained their relentless attacking display.
Tottenham extended their unbeaten start with a 0-0 draw against Monaco. Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario produced several key saves, denying Folarin Balogun and Jordan Teze, while Takumi Minamino narrowly missed a volley, ensuring the hosts had to settle for a point despite Monaco creating the more threatening chances.
