Australia India Institute hosts high-level dialogue on bilateral ties

The Australia India Institute convened a discussion in Delhi titled “Two Decades of Australia–India Relations: Insights from High Commissioners Past and Present” at the University of Melbourne Global Centre, bringing together current and former diplomats to reflect on the trajectory of the partnership.

Moderated by CEO Lisa Singh, the panel featured Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green alongside former High Commissioners Patrick Suckling and John McCarthy. The conversation focused on how engagement between the two nations has expanded across areas such as security cooperation, education, and economic collaboration over the past two decades.

Indian National Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor also addressed attendees, emphasising the growing depth and maturity of Australia–India relations.

Speakers reflected on the steady evolution of bilateral ties since 2004, noting that the partnership today is underpinned by mutual trust and strengthened by sustained diplomatic efforts and shared strategic interests.
