‘Apne 2’ producer Deepak Mukut confirms film is happening, will be a tribute to Dharmendra

Mumbai, Nov 27 (IANS): Amid rumours that Apne 2 had been shelved following Dharmendra’s passing, producer Deepak Mukut has clarified that the film is firmly on track — and will serve as a heartfelt tribute to the late legend.

The original Apne, starring Dharmendra alongside Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, holds a special place in the hearts of fans and was deeply cherished by Dharmendra himself. Speculation around the sequel had intensified after his demise, but Mukut dismissed all such claims.

“People need to stop spreading unverified rumours. Apne 2 is NOT shelved. The film is happening, with full conviction,” Mukut said in a statement. “We have been working quietly but consistently. This project has always been emotionally significant for our banner.”

Calling the sequel a labour of love, he added: “Apne belonged to Dharamji — his warmth, his presence, his soul defined that film. Apne 2 is extremely close to my heart and, in many ways, will be a shradhanjali, a heartfelt homage to him. We want the sequel to celebrate his values and the emotional world he built with the Deol family on screen.”

Initially announced with Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and Karan Deol, the film has undergone creative restructuring, but its core intention remains unchanged: to honour the emotional legacy of one of Hindi cinema’s most loved family dramas.

For Deol fans and admirers of Dharmendra’s evergreen charm, the confirmation comes as welcome news. Apne 2 is moving forward — crafted as a tribute befitting the icon who made the franchise unforgettable.
