Ahmedabad, Aug 29 (IANS) – Adani Power Ltd on Friday announced that it has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL) for a 25-year supply of electricity from a new 2,400 MW greenfield thermal power project at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur district.
The project, comprising three 800 MW ultra-supercritical units, will supply power to North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd (SBPDCL) under a long-term Power Supply Agreement (PSA).
S.B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power, said the upcoming plant will set benchmarks in efficiency and sustainability while ensuring affordable, uninterrupted electricity for Bihar. “This project will catalyse industrial growth, strengthen the state’s economy, and improve the lives of its people,” he added.
Adani Power won the project through a tariff-based competitive bidding process, offering the lowest supply price of ₹6.075 per kWh. The company will invest around $3 billion in the plant and supporting infrastructure. Construction is expected to generate 10,000–12,000 jobs, with around 3,000 permanent positions once operations begin.
The development comes as India’s electricity demand is projected to rise sharply, with peak demand estimated to reach 400 GW by 2031-32 and over 700 GW by 2047. The government has targeted adding 100 GW of new thermal capacity by 2035 to meet this requirement.
Adani Power currently operates 18,110 MW of thermal power capacity across 12 plants nationwide.
