Nagesh Singh formally assumed office as India’s High Commissioner to Australia after presenting his credentials to Governor-General Sam Mostyn AC on May 5 in Canberra.
The ceremony included an inspection of the Guard of Honour by the new High Commissioner following the presentation of credentials.
An Indian Foreign Service officer from the 1995 batch, Singh previously served as India’s Ambassador to Thailand before his appointment to Australia. He succeeds Gopal Baglay in the role.
During his diplomatic career, Singh has held several senior positions including Chief of Protocol from July 2018 to October 2022 and Consul General in Atlanta. He has also served in various capacities at the Ministry of External Affairs and at Indian missions in Paris and at the United Nations.
Officials said Singh’s appointment comes at a time of growing India-Australia engagement across sectors including trade, defence and education.
