Perth, April 24 (Australia India News Newsdesk)
A vibrant celebration of Indian cinema and cultural exchange unfolded in Perth as the Consulate General of India partnered with the National Indian Film Festival of Australia to host the Perth Indian Film Festival from April 16 to 19.
Held at Reading Cinemas Belmont and the WA State Library, the festival brought together members of the Indian diaspora, film enthusiasts, and the wider Australian community, showcasing a diverse selection of films across India’s many regional languages.
The screenings highlighted the richness of Indian storytelling, reflecting the country’s cultural and creative diversity.
The festival served as a platform to deepen cultural connections between India and Australia, with cinema acting as a bridge for dialogue and shared experiences.
A major highlight was the panel discussion titled “From Fearless Nadia to Bidjara Kumari – Western Australian Stories with Indian Cinema,” which explored the intersections between Indian filmmaking and local Australian narratives.
India’s Consul General in Perth, Kajari Biswas, joined an eminent panel that included award-winning actress Mona Singh, Rajji Shinde, filmmaker and festival director Anupam Sharma, and Dr Parwinder Kaur.
The panellists reflected on the power of cinema in connecting cultures, fostering inclusivity, and amplifying diverse voices in multicultural societies such as Australia.
The Consulate noted that initiatives like the Perth Indian Film Festival continue to play an important role in strengthening people-to-people ties and enhancing cultural engagement between the two nations.
