After a steady run at the box office, Shah Rukh Khan‘s Dunki has hit single-digit territory for the first time since its December 21 release. According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, the film made Rs 9 crore in India on its eighth day of release. This is the film’s lowest single-day haul yet, but a bump in numbers is expected over the weekend.
Dunki had a solid opening of nearly Rs 30 crore last Thursday. However, the film’s performance was compared unfavourably to Shah Rukh’s last two blockbusters, Pathaan, which made Rs 57 crore on day one, and Jawan, which made Rs 75 crore on opening day. Despite the relatively smaller opening, director Rajkumar Hirani’s film has now made Rs 161 crore nett in India, and should comfortably pass the Rs 200 crore mark over its second weekend.
As with most Shah Rukh films, Dunki is also attracting audiences abroad. According to Red Chillies Entertainment, Dunki has already crossed the Rs 300 crore mark globally. The film’s worldwide collection stands at Rs 305 crore gross, and it should comfortably pass the Rs 350 crore mark by Sunday.
On Thursday, Dunki saw an overall occupancy of 14.36 percent. The film had 647 shows in Mumbai which saw 18.50 percent occupancy, and in Delhi– NCR region, the film had around 875 shows, which saw an occupancy of 12.50 occupancy. Dunki is competing against Prabhas’ Salaar, which recently passed the Rs 500 crore mark globally, and has made around Rs 100 crore in the Hindi market alone.
Dunki also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover. The film is directed from a script Hirani co-wrote with Abhijaat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon.
