Australian High Commissioner explores Mumbai dabbawala model

Mumbai, April 27 (Australia India News Newsdesk)

Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, recently engaged with the renowned Mumbai Dabbawala Association during a visit to Mumbai, examining one of India’s most celebrated community-led logistics systems.

During the interaction, the High Commissioner observed the dabbawalas’ intricate sorting and delivery process, widely recognised for its remarkable efficiency in ensuring that home-cooked meals reach office workers and students across the city on time, despite Mumbai’s complex transport network.

The visit highlighted Australia’s growing interest in innovative, low-cost and community-driven solutions to urban challenges. Officials indicated that there are plans to explore the adaptability of the dabbawala model in Perth, reflecting a potential new avenue for collaboration.

The engagement also underscored strengthening India-Australia ties through practical knowledge exchange and grassroots innovation, with the dabbawala system continuing to draw global attention as a model of precision, discipline and social enterprise.
