The spirit of remembrance and national pride was on full display as hundreds gathered at Kedron-Wavell in Brisbane on Friday to commemorate Anzac Day, honouring the courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of Australia’s servicemen and women.
The service, organised by the Kedron-Wavell RSL Sub-Branch, drew veterans, local residents, community leaders, and families who assembled to pay their respects on one of Australia’s most significant national days. Observed annually on April 25, Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) troops at Gallipoli in 1915 and commemorates all those who have served in conflicts and peacekeeping missions.
The day’s commemorations began with a dawn service at the Lutwyche Cemetery War Graves Section, followed by a community march leading to the Kedron-Wavell memorial. The main service commenced in the morning, featuring traditional elements including the laying of wreaths, the recitation of the Ode of Remembrance, the sounding of the Last Post, and a minute’s silence.
Speakers at the event reflected on the values of courage, mateship, and resilience that define the Anzac spirit, urging younger generations to carry forward the legacy of those who served. The ceremony provided a moment for collective reflection, as attendees stood in silence to honour the fallen and acknowledge the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces.
