Reception on INS Nilgiri highlights India’s role in Exercise Kakadu 2026

The High Commission of India in Canberra hosted a formal reception aboard Indian Naval Ship INS Nilgiri during its deployment for Exercise Kakadu 2026, signalling India’s continued engagement in regional maritime cooperation.

Vice Admiral Mark Hammond, Chief of the Royal Australian Navy, attended the event as Chief Guest. Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, who is leading the Indian delegation at the exercise, was also present.

The reception was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, a Member of the New South Wales Parliament, and senior naval officers from participating countries. The gathering provided an opportunity to strengthen professional connections and exchange perspectives on maritime security in the Indo-Pacific.

Exercise Kakadu, hosted by Australia, brings together navies from across the region to enhance coordination and interoperability. India’s participation reflects its commitment to collaborative security efforts and maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific.

The event aboard INS Nilgiri also served as a platform to showcase India’s naval presence while reinforcing defence ties with partner nations.
