Canberra, February 12 (Australia India News Newsdesk)
The Governor-General of Australia welcomed players from the Governor-General’s XI women’s side and the India women’s national cricket team to Admiralty House in Sydney ahead of their match at North Sydney Oval on February 13.
Joined by GG’s XI captain Charli Knott and India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the reception provided an opportunity to acknowledge the growing prominence of women’s cricket and extend best wishes to both teams. The gathering highlighted the spirit of sporting exchange between Australia and India as players prepared for the upcoming contest.
The Governor-General’s XI initiative, launched during the 2015–16 season by former Governor-General Peter Cosgrove, was created to promote women’s cricket by featuring a blend of established and emerging talent. The annual fixture traditionally leads into the Australia–India women’s multiformat series, which is set to commence on February 15 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Officials said the event underscored the importance of supporting women’s sport while strengthening ties between the two cricketing nations through shared sporting experiences.
