‘May brother-sister relation gain renewed strength’, says PM Modi on Bhai Dooj

New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS) — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday conveyed heartfelt greetings to the nation on the occasion of Bhai Dooj, wishing happiness, prosperity, and good fortune to all.

Taking to X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Heartfelt wishes to all of you on the occasion of Bhai Dooj. May this festival, symbolising the mutual love and trust between brother and sister, bring happiness, prosperity, and good fortune into everyone’s life. May the bond of this relationship gain renewed strength.”

Celebrated across India with affection and joy, Bhai Dooj — also known as Bhaiya Dooj, Bhau Beej, or Bhai Tika — honours the cherished bond between brothers and sisters.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also greeted the nation, saying, “Heartfelt wishes on the auspicious festival of Bhai Dooj. May this festival of love and affection between brother and sister bring immense happiness, harmony, and prosperity into all your lives.”

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda extended similar wishes, calling Bhai Dooj “a symbol of the unbreakable affection and dedication between siblings.” In his message on X, Nadda added, “May this festival infuse all your lives with happiness, prosperity, joy, and affection; this is my prayer to God.”

Observed on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha in Kartika — the eighth month of the Vikram Samvat and Shalivahana Shaka calendars — Bhai Dooj coincides with the Diwali celebrations in many parts of the country.

According to legend, Goddess Yamuna invited her brother Yamaraj to her home for a meal on this day. Since then, Bhai Dooj has been celebrated as a symbol of sibling love, marking liberation from suffering and the bestowal of happiness upon all beings.
