Lost in mela, Delhi Police help reunite 5-year-old girl with family

New Delhi, Oct 3 (IANS): A five-year-old girl from Begusarai, Bihar, who went missing while playing at the Ramlila Mela in Dwarka, was safely reunited with her family, police said on Friday.

Dwarka DCP Ankit Singh has set up ‘Khoya Paya’ booths across Ramlila events in the district to assist in locating missing children and reuniting them with their families.

In this case, multiple teams under the supervision of Rajesh Kumar Sah, SHO of Dwarka South, and ACP Dwarka Kishore Kumar Rewala—including Chowki Incharge Sector 10 SI Rajat Malik and head constables Kedar Singh Gurjar, Kamlesh, and Shaitan Singh—worked tirelessly to find the girl.

The child, being only five, struggled to provide details about her parents. Undeterred, the police displayed her pictures on digital platforms and display screens across the fairgrounds, while making regular announcements with information about the missing child.

The efforts paid off when the distressed family responded to the announcements. After completing the identification process, the girl was safely handed over to her mother. “Seeing the family together was heartwarming! The mother’s joy knew no bounds when she saw her daughter,” the police said in a statement.

Earlier, police had reunited two other children during the Ramlila Mela. The ‘Khoya Paya’ initiative has been instrumental in tracing lost children amid the large crowds during Durga Puja and Vijayadashmi festivities, which draw thousands to the fairgrounds.
