New Delhi, Oct 1 (IANS) – India reiterated its commitment to deepening ties with Armenia as Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary (West) Sibi George represented the country at Armenia’s National Day celebrations in New Delhi.
The MEA highlighted the event on X, stating, “Secretary (West) Sibi George represented India at the National Day celebrations of the Republic of Armenia. He reaffirmed commitment to the long-standing India-Armenia friendship rooted in history, building on recent high-level engagements among the leadership of both countries.”
The reaffirmation comes on the back of a series of high-level exchanges between the two nations. In August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Tianjin, where both leaders emphasized their “warm and growing ties.”
Earlier, in March, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan visited India at the invitation of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Their discussions covered political exchanges, trade, connectivity, education, culture, and people-to-people contacts, while also exploring cooperation in digital technologies and pharmaceuticals. They further exchanged views on regional and global issues and multilateral cooperation at the UN and other platforms.
Defence cooperation has also emerged as a key pillar of bilateral relations. In February, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Armenian counterpart Suren Papikyan on the sidelines of Aero India 2025 in Bengaluru. The two sides reviewed ongoing military and technical collaboration, discussed enhancing training cooperation, and explored joint ventures in the defence industry.
India and Armenia continue to expand cooperation across strategic, economic, and cultural domains, strengthening a partnership rooted in shared history and mutual interests.
