New Delhi, Oct 1 (IANS) — On the occasion of Maha Navami, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta performed the traditional ‘Kanya Pujan’ at the Government Girls’ Secondary School in Haiderpur, highlighting the cultural and spiritual reverence accorded to girls as symbols of divine feminine power.
Addressing students, teachers, and residents, CM Gupta stressed the need to empower young girls through education and equal opportunities.
“Shakti is a symbol of power, and in our country daughters have always been seen as embodiments of the Mother Goddess,” she said. “Even as Chief Minister, I firmly believe our future lies in our daughters. The more love, care, and opportunities we give them, the brighter our nation’s future will be.”
During the event, the Chief Minister also announced that land had been secured for a new higher secondary school in the area.
“For years, there has been no school up to Class 12 here. I am happy to share that we have acquired land for one, and construction will begin soon,” she said.
Earlier in the day, CM Gupta extended Maha Navami greetings on X, paying tribute to Maa Siddhidatri, the ninth form of Goddess Durga. She wrote that the goddess “destroys demons to establish righteousness and truth” and prayed for her blessings of compassion, knowledge, and courage to bring peace and prosperity to society.
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister also took part in the Bathukamma festival celebrations organised by the Telugu Students’ Union at Ramjas College. Acknowledging the Telugu community’s contribution to Delhi, she said their hard work and cultural richness have “added new colours to the capital’s identity.”
