Suchitra Krishnamoorthi: Vande Mataram Is Not Just Music to Me — It’s My Heartbeat

Mumbai, Aug 14 (IANS) — Actress-singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi has released a new original composition inspired by India’s national song, Vande Mataram.

Unveiled on Thursday, on the eve of Independence Day, the track embodies the timeless essence of patriotism while carrying a profound sense of devotion.

“For me, Vande Mataram is not just music — it is breath, it is heartbeat, it is the pulse of a billion dreams,” Suchitra said. “I wanted to create something that feels like the nation’s own prayer — tender enough to soothe, powerful enough to stir.”

Originally penned in 1876 by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Vande Mataram became a rallying cry for generations, inspiring the freedom movement.

Suchitra’s rendition honours that legacy while presenting an entirely new musical creation. Composed and sung by her, it blends the sanctity of classical Indian music with the vibrance of contemporary fusion.

The accompanying music video is a vivid celebration of India’s beauty and diversity, featuring sweeping landscapes, AI-enhanced visuals, and intimate human moments.

This release follows the success of her bestselling memoir Drama Queen, which made history as India’s first musical audiobook on Audible Worldwide — a lively theatrical journey written, narrated, and performed by her.

Directed by Seshu KMR, Vande Mataram will be available on all major music platforms from August 14, 2025.

Suchitra began her career while still in school, starring in the TV series Chunauti and performing in Peanuts: The Musical, based on the famous comic strip. She made her big-screen breakthrough in 1994 with the critically and commercially acclaimed Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa opposite Shah Rukh Khan, later acting in Kilukkampetti alongside Malayalam star Jayaram. In the mid-to-late 1990s, she also pursued a music career, releasing popular albums including Dole Dole, Dum Tara, Aha, and Zindagi.
