Albany celebrates Diwali with multicultural spirit

The Indian community, along with members of Albany’s diverse multicultural society, came together to celebrate Diwali at the Town Square in Albany, Western Australia, recently. Hosted by Rainbow Coast Neighbourhood Centre Albany and the Great Southern Migrant Services, the festival brought together over 500 attendees.
The vibrant celebrations featured a mix of classical and contemporary dances, Rangoli displays, and a traditional Punjabi fashion walk. A highlight of the event was the lively Bhangra and Jago folk dances, bringing a burst of energy and cultural pride to the gathering.
Among the distinguished guests were Rebecca Stephens, Member for Albany, and Asha Bhat OAM, CEO of the Southern Aboriginal Corporation, who were both honoured to participate in the festivities. The event not only showcased the richness of Indian culture but also emphasized the unity and spirit of multiculturalism within the community.
