Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday attacked India over the Narendra Modi-led government’s move to scrap Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The development comes at a time when Pakistan has aggressively retaliated against the move. While it has degraded diplomatic ties with India, there are several unofficial reports which indicate that Pakistan-based terrorists are planning to infiltrate Kashmir Valley.
Imran Khan attacked New Delhi for attempting to “change the demography of Kashmir through ethnic cleansing”.
He also made a comparison between the ideologies shared by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Nazis. He said the restrictions on Jammu and Kashmir amount to a crackdown on the rights of Kashmiris.
Khan’s controversial statement comes in the wake of India’s decision to scrap Article 370 and passing a bill to bifurcate J&K and Ladakh. The new Union Territories will come to existence from October 31, 2019.
Not just bilateral ties, the developments in Kashmir have also led to Pakistan shutting several transportation services to India and even suspending bilateral trade.
Pakistan is also in touch with China in order to gain support to reverse India’s move. However, China has asked Pakistan to solve the issue diplomatically.
The US, on the other hand, said it is scrutinising each and every action over the development and asked Pakistan to exercise restraint on the matter.
After Pakistan took a series of unilateral steps over the Kashmir issue, India made it very clear to Islamabad to stay out of its internal matters. It also said that the decision taken by Pakistan in light of the Article 370 move has been done without consultation.
