3 militants killed in encounter in Jammu and Kashmir

Three militants have been killed and two encounters are underway at separate places in Jammu and Kashmir. A total of five militants have been gunned down in four separate encounters in the last 24 hours.

Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in a fierce gunfight with security forces in Bandipora district on Friday. One of the militants killed in the encounter in the district’s Hajin area was identified as Pakistan-based LeT commander Ali Bhai.

Another militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter in Shopian district’s Ratnipora area, which started in the wee hours of Friday. The firing was ongoing from both the sides as of the last update.

Officials said two to three militants were believed to be trapped inside a house in Ratnipora.

A team of police and 34 Rashtriya Rifles of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were carrying out a cordon and search operation in the area.

In Sopore, firing was being exchanged in Warpora area, the same site of an encounter on Thursday where two policemen were injured. The police said that there were no reports of any militant killed in this gunfight so far.

All educational institutions in Sopore were closed and mobile Internet services suspended as a precautionary measure.
